Why we did it
In Tel Aviv, a bicycle or scooter is stolen every 18 minutes. Theft is the second biggest deterrent to micro-mobility usage in the city, leading to a widespread lack of trust in cycle parking infrastructure.
To address this, Tel Aviv Municipality sought innovative anti-theft solutions through EIT Urban Mobility's City RAPTOR project. Mosa was selected as the winner among leading European startups, securing a €40,000 grant and direct municipal support to conduct a real-world field trial of our smart docking system.
How we did it
Phase 1 —
On-the-Ground Preparation(3 weeks)
-
Receiving and setting up docks in partnership with Chen Ofen
-
Installation at Atidim Park (private site), City Hall, and Florentine (public sites)
-
Installation testing with on-the-ground support staff
-
Training sessions on system operation for local team
Phase 2 —Field Trial
(1 month)
Private site: Atidim Park — controlled environment testing user interactions and system functionality
City Hall — 5 docks in a high-footfall public environment
Florentine — 5 docks evaluating real-world security and adoption
Phase 3 — Post-Trial Insights & Feedback
User feedback event: a casual gathering with participants to collect in-person insights
Comprehensive data collection and usage analysis
Initial findings presented at the Mobility Tomorrow Conference
What we achieved
The trial marked the first live deployment of Mosa's smart docking system, demonstrating its robust security features and validating strong demand. Not a single dock was compromised during the entire trial period.
Through user interviews, we uncovered the frustration and genuine security concerns of urban cyclists — further validating the potential of our solution to enhance micro-mobility adoption in cities worldwide. The 100% demand rate for permanent deployment was a clear signal that the infrastructure gap is real and addressable.
Next steps
Following the success of this pilot, Mosa is exploring further collaboration with Tel Aviv Municipality and other cities to implement scalable smart docking solutions. We are currently planning a city-wide deployment of secure parking docks in Tel Aviv, expanding our impact to provide long-term security for micro-mobility users.
Various revenue models are also being explored — including small fees for secure parking — to ensure the scheme benefits users while remaining financially sustainable in the long run.
